Honorable Myra Crownover, Chair, House Committee on Public Health
FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
SB197 by Schwertner (Relating to the financial self-sufficiency of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.), Committee Report 2nd House, Substituted
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend Health and Safety code to require the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) to perform an analysis of options for financial self-sufficiency and submit a plan to the legislature based on that analysis to achieve self-sufficiency. The bill would require CPRIT to submit the initial plan no later than December 1, 2016, and to submit annual updates by December 1 of each subsequent year until 2021. It is assumed that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed with the agency's existing resources.
The bill would take effect immediately upon receiving two-thirds majority vote in each house. Otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2015.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
