LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 4, 2015

TO:
Honorable Myra Crownover, Chair, House Committee on Public Health

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB373 by West (Relating to increased oversight by the Department of State Health Services of hospitals that commit certain violations.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapter 241 of the Health and Safety Code to require the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to approve, monitor, and enforce a plan of correction submitted by hospitals that commit a violation resulting in a reportable and potentially preventable adverse event. DSHS indicates that any cost to implement provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
