FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 7, 2015

TO:
Honorable Kel Seliger, Chair, Senate Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB691 by Birdwell (Relating to tuition and fee exemptions for certain students enrolled in fire science courses at public institutions of higher education.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill amends the Education Code as it relates to exemptions for students enrolled in fire science courses from the payment of tuition and laboratory fees at public institutions of higher education. The bill removes the requirement that a student with an organized volunteer fire department be an active participant in the Texas Emergency Services Retirement System or a retirement system established under the Texas Local Fire Fighters Retirement Act. Based on information provided by the Higher Education Coordinating Board and institutions of higher education, it is assumed provisions of the bill would not have a significant impact.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
