LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 19, 2015

TO:
Honorable Larry Taylor, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB811 by Rodríguez (Relating to providing a translated copy of a student's individualized education program to parents unable to speak English.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require school districts to provide a child's individualized education program (IEP) in audiotape form to parents who are unable to speak English, if the parent requests it. The audiotape would be required to contain only the child's IEP, including any component required under state or federal law.

Local Government Impact

Districts may incur additional costs to having IEPs orally translated or related to editing audio recordings of admission, review, and dismissal committee meetings so the recording only includes the IEP.
