No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would allow the Commissioner of Education to grant a charter to public senior colleges or universities to operate an open-enrollment charter school campus at any location in the state.
There could be an increase in requests for expansions from institutions of higher education (IHEs) or increases in requests to operate IHE charters in new locations. If the IHE requests increase significantly, the Texas Education Agency could require additional resources to assist with the IHE charter process.
