No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to require the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to alter driver licenses to identify autonomous vehicle drivers and adopt rules authorizing operation of autonomous vehicles. The bill would also require the Texas Department of Transportation to create a plan to install roadside communication infrastructure to support the operation of autonomous vehicles. It is assumed the costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within exiting resources.
