LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 8, 2015

TO:
Honorable Kevin Eltife, Chair, Senate Committee on Business & Commerce

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1174 by Eltife (Relating to the property to which a child support lien attaches.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Family Code, to clarify the property to which a child support lien attaches. Under current law, a lien attaches to the proceeds of insurance policies, based on a wide variety of claims. The bill would exclude insurance claims for damage to real or personal property. The Office of  Court Administration indicates bill provisions are not anticipated to have a significant fiscal implication  to the court system.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
