No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Election Code to establish procedure for holding a primary election for a political party in a county without party leadership. The bill puts forth procedures for holding the election. Under the provisions of the bill, a contract entered into under the section would be eligible for reimbursement for primary election expenses. The bill would permit an election officer appointed to serve a polling place for a primary election conducted under the provisions of the bill to be affiliated with any political party. The Secretary of State would be required to adopt rules for the implementation of the provisions of the bill.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.

Shackelford County reported costs associated with the implementation of the bill would be paid up front by the county then reimbursed at a later date.
