LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 6, 2015

TO:
Honorable John Whitmire, Chair, Senate Committee on Criminal Justice

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1474 by Garcia (Relating to the eligibility for participation in veterans court programs.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code to expand the availability of veterans court programs to defendants who had suffered sexual trauma during military service, as described. The bill would also provide a court more discretion to order participation in a veterans court program if the court found, after considering the defendant's conduct and background, that participation would ensure public safety and rehabilitate the veteran.  The Office of Court Administration indicates that bill provisions are not anticipated to have a significant fiscal implication on the court system.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
