LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 24, 2015

TO:
Honorable Larry Taylor, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1483 by Garcia (relating to Texas community schools.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Education Code allow campuses to transition to a Texas community school to support and improve educational outcomes. Low-performing schools would have the option to transition to a Texas community school instead of closure.

Based on the analysis of the Texas Education Agency, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. School districts could incur additional costs to transition to a Texas community school, but these costs would be voluntary.
