LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 20, 2015

TO:
Honorable Larry Phillips, Chair, House Committee on Homeland Security & Public Safety

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1529 by Burton (Relating to the creation and regulation of a law enforcement agency or police department.), Committee Report 2nd House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Occupations Code to require a potential law enforcement agency to submit all information required by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and be issued an agency number by TCOLE. The bill would also authorize TCOLE to suspend the operations of an existing law enforcement agency if the entity creating the law enforcement agency fails to meet certain specified criteria.

It is assumed any costs associated with implementing the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
