No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require high school students who successfully complete mathematics and English language arts college preparatory courses to be exempt from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) assessment for a certain amount of time and enroll in an institution of higher education (IHE) in the exempted content area their first year. The bill would require the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) to collect data and analyze the effectiveness of college preparatory courses based on students successful completion of first year college-level courses in exempted areas, and report the on the results.

This analysis assumes that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within the THECB's existing resources.

Local Government Impact

School districts and open-enrollment charter schools may incur costs to amend college preparatory courses based on evaluations received from THECB to improve results. These costs would vary amongst districts.
