LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 21, 2015

TO:
Honorable Robert Nichols, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1987 by Menéndez (Relating to specialty license plates for people with a hearing impairment.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to require the Department of Motor (DMV) Vehicles to issue "Hearing Impaired" specialty license plates at no cost to an individual with a hearing impairment.

For the purposes of this analysis, it is assumed the new plate would be issued without payment of an additional fee for the specialty license plate and with payment of all other fees due at the time of application for a vehicle registration and renewal of registration. Based on the information and analysis provided by the DMV, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
