IN RE: | HB3839 by Deshotel (Relating to the operation of casino gaming in this state by licensed persons in certain areas of this state to provide additional money for residual windstorm insurance coverage in the coastal areas; requiring occupational licenses or certifications; creating criminal offenses and providing other penalties; authorizing fees; imposing a tax.), As Introduced |
The provisions of the bill addressing felony sanctions are the subject of this analysis. The bill would amend various codes as they relate to casino gaming. The bill would amend the Occupations Code to create the offense of manipulation or tampering of a casino game. This offense would be punishable as a third degree felony.
A third degree felony is punishable by confinement in prison for a term of two to 10 years and an optional fine not to exceed $10,000.
Creating a new offense is expected to result in increased demands on state correctional resources due to additional persons placed under felony community supervision or admitted into state correctional institutions. However, this analysis assumes implementing the provisions of the bill would not significantly impact state correctional populations, programs, or workloads.
