Pursuant to a notice posted on April 12, 2016, the House Committee on Business & Industry met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Oliveira, at 10:06 a.m.
The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Oliveira; Simmons; Fletcher; Romero, Jr.; and Villalba.
A quorum was present.
The committee considered the following charge:
Study Texas Businesses’ utilization of the Federal Work Opportunity Tax Credit, and the associated state tax refund under Subchapter H, Labor Code, in employing those who are receiving government benefits and/or have consistently faced significant barriers to employment. Conduct cost/benefit analysis of the tax credit vis-à-vis savings in federal and state public assistance programs. Make recommendations to remove any unnecessary administrative obstructions and expand Texas Business owners’ use of the program.

At 11:52 a.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
