Pursuant to a notice posted on May 13, 2016, the House Committee on Business & Industry met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Oliveira, at 10:25 a.m.
The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Oliveira; Fletcher; Rinaldi; and Romero, Jr..
A quorum was present.

The Committee considered the following charges:
Charge 3: Evaluate how Texas can support shared economy growth in the state. Determine how the state can ensure customer security and satisfaction as well as consumer protections without enacting burdensome regulations. Additionally, study the effects of a growing portion of the state’s workforce seeking full-time vs. supplemental part-time employment with related technology-based businesses. Analyze recent debate and legal precedent regarding the classification of these employees.

Charge 4: Examine the regulatory powers of property owners associations, and the procedures available to home owners when an association restricts individual or property rights. Review current best practices to help clarify the balance of property rights, transparency in governance, and the best interests of property owners in the state.

At 4:33 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
