Pursuant to a notice posted on May 2, 2016, the House Committee on Emerging Issues In Texas Law Enforcement, Select met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Fletcher, at 1:04 p.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Fletcher; Koop; Martinez, "Mando"; and White, James.

 

A quorum was present.

 

The committee met jointly with the

Government Transparency & Operation Committee to take testimony on the following interim charge:

Study the impact of emerging technologies used by law enforcement and issues related to appropriate dissemination of the data provided by those technologies, including the impact of technologies on the operation of law enforcement agencies, the operation of the Public Information Act, and any appropriate safeguards for citizens and law enforcement officers who interact with those technologies or whose data is recorded.


 

The Chair noted Rep. Marquez was absent from the hearing due to doctor imposed travel limitations regarding her pregnancy.

 

The Chair noted Rep. Flynn was absent due to business in the district.

 

The Chair noted that Rep. Dukes would be arriving late due to a medical appointment.

The Chair recognized Rep. Martinez to make an introduction of students from Weslaco East High School participating in the UIL Academic State Tournament.
