Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, in the Quinta Mazatlan, McAllen, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:08 AM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

 

The Chair laid out the following interim charge: Monitor the implementation of legislation addressed by the Senate Committee on Education and make recommendations for any legislation needed to improve, enhance, and/or complete implementation. Specifically, monitor the following: Legislation to address training support for counselors, and advising courses for middle school students.

 

The following persons provided invited testimony (see attached witness list).

 

 

The Chair laid out the following interim charge: Monitor the implementation of legislation addressed by the Senate Committee on Education and make recommendations for any legislation needed to improve, enhance, and/or complete implementation. Specifically, monitor the following: Program to require the placement and use of video cameras in self-contained classrooms or other settings providing special education services to students.

The Chair laid out the following interim charge: Local briefing on English Language Learning.
