A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to informational materials for pregnant women enrolled in
  Medicaid and CHIP perinatal programs.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Chapter 34, Health and Safety Code, is amended by
  adding Section 34.0051 to read as follows:
         Sec. 34.0051.  INFORMATIONAL MATERIALS FOR CERTAIN PREGNANT
  WOMEN. (a) In this section:
               (1)  "CHIP perinatal program" means the perinatal
  program operated under the child health plan program established
  under Chapter 62.
               (2)  "Medicaid" means the medical assistance program
  established under Chapter 32, Human Resources Code.
         (b)  The commission, in coordination with the task force,
  shall develop for and provide to each pregnant woman enrolled in
  Medicaid or the CHIP perinatal program informational materials to
  increase the woman's ability to advocate for herself on
  reproductive health issues to her health care provider. The
  informational materials must include information on the possible
  health risks and complications a woman may incur before the first
  anniversary of the date the woman gave birth or her pregnancy ended.
         (c)  The informational materials developed under Subsection
  (b) may be in a paper or easily accessible electronic format or in
  another format the commission determines appropriate for the
  provision of the materials to women under this section.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect December 1, 2017.
