A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to use of compensatory education allotment funding to |
|
provide assistance to students at risk of dropping out of school who |
|
are pregnant or who are parents and requiring reporting through the |
|
Public Education Information Management System. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 42.152, Education Code, is amended by |
|
adding Subsections (c-3) and (c-4) to read as follows: |
|
(c-3) Notwithstanding Subsection (c), funds allocated under |
|
this section may be used to: |
|
(1) provide child-care services or assistance with |
|
child-care expenses for students at risk of dropping out of school, |
|
as described by Section 29.081(d)(5); or |
|
(2) pay the costs associated with services provided |
|
through a life skills program in accordance with Sections |
|
29.085(b)(1) and (3)-(7). |
|
(c-4) Not later than January 1, 2018, the commissioner shall |
|
adopt rules requiring the Public Education Information Management |
|
System (PEIMS) to include pregnancy as a reason a student withdraws |
|
from or otherwise no longer attends public school. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017, if this |
|
Act receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each |
|
house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. |
|
If this Act does not receive the vote necessary to take effect |
|
September 1, 2017, this Act takes effect on the 91st day after the |
|
last day of the legislative session. |
