R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Hugh Dell Gatewood has distinguished herself |
|
|
through her exemplary service as president of the Woman's Auxiliary |
|
|
of the National Baptist Convention, USA; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Woman's Auxiliary of the National Baptist |
|
|
Convention, USA, was established to care for the needs of women |
|
|
within the convention by promoting spiritual growth and Christian |
|
|
education, training future leaders, and encouraging collaboration; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A longtime member of the auxiliary, Dr. Gatewood |
|
|
ably guided the group as its president from January 2005 to January |
|
|
2017; prior to holding the presidency, she served as vice president |
|
|
as well as second vice president and west region director; over the |
|
|
years, she has also been instrumental in creating study materials |
|
|
and Sunday school curricula, and she has represented the |
|
|
organization at a host of international events in the Bahamas, |
|
|
Jamaica, Europe, and Africa; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Gatewood is a native of Houston and a graduate |
|
|
of Texas Southern University; she enjoyed a rewarding career in |
|
|
education, during which she taught at schools throughout the |
|
|
Galveston and Houston Independent School Districts; in her free |
|
|
time, she volunteers with the League of Women Voters and |
|
|
Compassionate Care Hospice, and she is a speaker, lecturer, and |
|
|
workshop presenter; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Sustained by a deep and abiding faith, Dr. Gatewood |
|
|
has been a congregant of Greater First Baptist Church for nearly six |
|
|
decades; she has also benefited the Baptist community by serving at |
|
|
the highest levels within the Woman's Auxiliary of the Lincoln |
|
|
Southern District Association and the Woman's Auxiliary of the |
|
|
Baptist Missionary and Education Convention of Texas, which she has |
|
|
led for 27 years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through her vision, hard work, and dedication to |
|
|
excellence, Dr. Hugh Dell Gatewood has helped advance the mission |
|
|
of the Woman's Auxiliary of the National Baptist Convention, USA, |
|
|
and she may indeed reflect with pride on her myriad contributions to |
|
|
that organization; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Hugh Dell |
|
|
Gatewood on her service to the Woman's Auxiliary of the National |
|
|
Baptist Convention, USA, and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Dr. Gatewood as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
