R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, After two decades of exceptional service to the City
  of Cedar Hill, Rod Tyler is retiring from his position as planning
  director on August 4, 2017, and the conclusion of his career
  provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on the myriad
  contributions of this esteemed professional; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Arlington,
  Mr. Tyler holds a bachelor's degree in architecture and a master's
  degree in urban and regional planning; he began his career in public
  service with the City of Euless, where he worked for 17 years before
  being hired by the City of Cedar Hill in 1997; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished tenure in Cedar
  Hill, Mr. Tyler has played a vital role in a number of key projects,
  including overseeing the preparation of two comprehensive plans and
  a zoning ordinance rewrite; he also helped the city to effectively
  manage a construction boom in the first decade of the 2000s and,
  under his able leadership, the planning department has reviewed 132
  conditional use permits, 164 zoning changes, 271 site plans, and
  568 plats; moreover, he has been instrumental in furthering the
  City Center Plan, an initiative that is transforming the area into a
  more walkable, mixed-use destination that will encompass new
  commercial shopping venues and a park; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Tyler enjoys the love and
  support of his wife, Kay, and he is the proud father of a daughter,
  Hannah, and a son, Travis; and
         WHEREAS, Rod Tyler's vision, ability, and dedication to
  excellence have helped make Cedar Hill an even better place in which
  to live, work, and raise a family, and he may take justifiable pride
  in his outstanding record of achievement as he embarks on the next
  exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Rod Tyler on his
  retirement as planning director for the City of Cedar Hill and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Tyler as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
