R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Imogene Bethel of Lamesa passed away on July 13, |
|
2017, at the age of 99, drawing to a close a long life filled with |
|
family, friends, and a wealth of warm memories; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Center Point, Arkansas, the former |
|
Imogene Bedwell was born on April 26, 1918, to Levi and Norma |
|
Bedwell and grew up with the companionship of a brother and three |
|
sisters; after moving with her family to Quitaque, she met and fell |
|
in love with Hal Reid Bethel, a regular customer at her father's |
|
café; they were married in 1939 and became the devoted parents of a |
|
son, Donald; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following a stint as a chief operator for a local |
|
phone company in Quitaque, Mrs. Bethel joined her husband in |
|
purchasing the Reid Bethel Tire Store in Lamesa in 1945; the Bethels |
|
built their home on 15th Street in 1955, and through the years, |
|
Mrs. Bethel delighted in hosting numerous guests, with whom she |
|
shared countless wonderful meals and rousing games of dominos and |
|
Skip-Bo; some of her favorite memories involved spending summers |
|
with her family at Lake Stamford, taking RV tours around Texas with |
|
her husband, and visiting Disneyland with her loved ones; and |
|
WHEREAS, Strong in her faith, Mrs. Bethel was a valued |
|
congregant of the First United Methodist Church, where she took |
|
part in the Cal Wright Sunday school class, and she was also a |
|
member of the Green Thumb Garden Club; moreover, she was an avid |
|
reader and a dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys; and |
|
WHEREAS, Imogene Bethel lived a rich and purposeful life |
|
centered around her faith and her family, and she will long be |
|
remembered with deep affection by all who knew her; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Imogene Bethel and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her |
|
family: to her son, Don Bethel, and his wife, Lynda; to her |
|
grandchildren, Danner Bethel and his wife, Tracy, Denise Molina and |
|
her husband, Gustavo, and David Bethel and his wife, Jana; to her |
|
great-grandchildren, Jake and Molly Bethel and Sofia and Stella |
|
Molina; and to her other relatives and her many friends and |
|
neighbors; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Imogene |
|
Bethel. |
