R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly
  cause for celebration, and Edward Vincent Pisklak of Brazoria is
  marking this momentous milestone in his life on August 21, 2017, to
  the delight of his family and friends; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Wallis in 1917, Edward Pisklak grew up as the
  third of 10 children; he worked hard on the family farms in Wallis
  and Fairchild but found time to learn the accordion by ear, and he
  excelled at baseball as well; while stationed in San Antonio, he
  played on a U.S. Army team, and he later played on several
  semi-professional teams in South Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Pisklak married the former Annie Hruby in
  November 1941, and they resided in Velasco and Oyster Creek before
  settling in Wild Peach in the early 1960s; they were blessed with 4
  treasured children, 8 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren,
  and Mr. Pisklak was a devoted father and outstanding role model; he
  and his wife shared a fulfilling marriage of nearly 70 years before
  her passing in 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Early in his career, Mr. Pisklak was employed by
  Austin Company and helped build the first Dow Chemical plant in
  Freeport; he joined Dow in 1941 and became a company legend, forming
  friendships with all his colleagues and developing unparalleled
  knowledge; it was his responsibility to approve most of the
  underground pipelines, and he learned the location of all of them,
  which proved vital following Hurricane Carla when many of the
  pipeline maps were destroyed by flooding; in addition, he played in
  the company baseball league; he retired from the utilities
  distribution department in 1982; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Pisklak has been a devout Catholic throughout
  his life, and he played the accordion at church picnics, charity
  benefits, and other events; when his mother moved to a nursing home
  in Needville, he began entertaining the residents, and well into
  his 80s, he performed monthly at five area nursing homes; in his
  leisure time, he enjoys watching baseball on TV, and he is a
  longtime fan of the Houston Astros; and
         WHEREAS, Edward Pisklak has earned the admiration and
  affection of countless people over the last century, and it is truly
  a pleasure to honor him for joining an elite group of Texans who can
  look back on 100 years of life well lived; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Edward
  Pisklak on his 100th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes
  for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Pisklak as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
