R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, An inspiring couple whose lives have been enhanced |
|
by a great and enduring love, Al and Ruth Burkhalter of Mount |
|
Pleasant celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 21, |
|
2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, Al Burkhalter and the former Ruth Speas met on the |
|
campus of Miltonvale Wesleyan College in Miltonvale, Kansas, and |
|
following a romantic proposal from outside her dorm room window, |
|
they exchanged the vows of matrimony in 1967; with the passing |
|
years, their family has grown to include their two sons, Chad and |
|
his wife, Cammy, and Travis and his wife, Beth, as well as their |
|
eight grandchildren, Cole, Cara Beth, Christina, Caroline, |
|
Isabella, Sophia, Isaac, and Joy; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Burkhalter are longtime educators who |
|
have worked in a number of cities in South Dakota and in Mount |
|
Pleasant; Mr. Burkhalter served as a math teacher and basketball, |
|
football, and track coach over the course of his 45-year career, |
|
while Mrs. Burkhalter specialized in teaching reading to |
|
elementary students during her 37 years in the classroom; they have |
|
always been active in their church, holding a number of leadership |
|
roles at Linwood Wesleyan Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, |
|
before becoming valued congregants of South Jefferson Baptist |
|
Church in Mount Pleasant; and |
|
WHEREAS, While much has changed in the world over the past |
|
half century, this devoted husband and wife have remained constant |
|
in their commitment to each other, and the strength of their love |
|
has enabled them to meet life's challenges and opportunities with |
|
grace and optimism; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Al and Ruth |
|
Burkhalter on their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them |
|
sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Burkhalter as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
