R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly |
|
cause for celebration, and Rita Giblin marked that impressive |
|
milestone on March 24, 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, Rita Louise Sheridan was born in New York City in |
|
1917, and at the age of six, she was sent to Houston to live with her |
|
aunt and uncle; she graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1934, |
|
earning honors for 11 years of perfect attendance in the Houston |
|
schools; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1941, she married Murphy Joseph Giblin in |
|
Brownsville; the couple lived in Houston, where she worked as a |
|
secretary and bookkeeper until she was 78 years old; she is the |
|
proud mother of 3 daughters, and in the years since, she has been |
|
blessed with 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of strong religious faith, Mrs. Giblin is |
|
the oldest living member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Houston; |
|
over the decades, she has rarely missed an opportunity to exercise |
|
her right to vote; in 2007, she moved to the Clairmont Retirement |
|
Community in Austin, where she continues to delight her friends and |
|
neighbors with her beautiful singing voice; and |
|
WHEREAS, Rita Giblin has witnessed a panorama of change over |
|
the course of a century, and she has met life's challenges and |
|
opportunities with dignity and grace, earning the deep admiration |
|
of all who are privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Rita Giblin on |
|
her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
|
continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Giblin as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
