R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Johnny Moa and the True King Band are celebrating |
|
their 45th anniversary with a special performance at Trees in |
|
Dallas on July 22, 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, The True King Band was formed on January 1, 1972, by |
|
Johnny Moa, who has continued to serve as its leader and manager |
|
ever since; in its early years, the group began building a fan base |
|
by touring throughout Texas as well as in Kansas, Oklahoma, and |
|
Illinois, and by the 1990s, the band had been featured at a host of |
|
legendary venues; along the way, it shared stages with a veritable |
|
who's who of the Tejano music scene, including Little Joe y La |
|
Familia, Latin Breed, Sunny Ozuna and the Sunliners, and Alfonso |
|
Ramos y Su Orquesta; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the decades, the True King Band has produced a |
|
discography encompassing four studio albums and a greatest hits |
|
collection, which was released in commemoration of the act's 35th |
|
anniversary in 2007; that same year, the ensemble was inducted into |
|
the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame in Alice; and |
|
WHEREAS, For 45 years, Johnny Moa and the True King Band have |
|
entertained audiences across the Lone Star State and beyond, and |
|
this occasion presents a welcome opportunity to recognize the |
|
group's contributions to the rich musical heritage of Texas; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Johnny Moa and |
|
the True King Band on their 45th anniversary and extend to each |
|
member sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
