R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Gerald Wayne Joseph is being recognized for his
  community service at the Fifth Annual Maxine Spates and Isadora
  Wills Scholarship Luncheon on September 9, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, This notable event is hosted by Catholic Daughters
  of the Americas--Mother of Love Court No. 2092 in Houston;
  established in 1974 at Resurrection Catholic Church and guided by
  the CDA motto, "Unity and Charity," this group is composed of women
  from several local parishes who work tirelessly to promote social
  justice and advance human rights; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Gerald Joseph has been involved with
  many religious, civic, and social organizations; he is a valued
  member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, where he is director
  of education and serves on the board of the parish credit union;
  previously, he was president of the pastoral council and a member of
  the parish school board; he is also active with the Knights of Peter
  Claver, the Father John H. Dorsey Grand Assembly No. 2, the Society
  of St. Vincent de Paul, and the Knights of Columbus Houston Council
  803; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Joseph is a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha
  Fraternity, and he served as its state president; in addition, he
  belongs to the NAACP, the Texas Southern University Alumni
  Association, the Jack Yates High School Alumni Association, and the
  Wood Shadow II Civic Club; moreover, he is the first African
  American to serve as president of the Galena Park/Jacinto City
  Rotary Club; in all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of
  his wife, Marjorie Broussard-Joseph, and their two sons, Justin and
  Jared; and
         WHEREAS, An engaged civic leader, Gerald Joseph has given
  freely of his time and talents for the benefit of his fellow
  citizens, and his dedication and generosity are an inspiration to
  all who know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Gerald Wayne
  Joseph on being honored by Catholic Daughters of the
  Americas--Mother of Love Court No. 2092 at its Fifth Annual Maxine
  Spates and Isadora Wills Scholarship Luncheon and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Joseph as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
