R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |
|
memories of Robert G. Neill Jr. of El Paso, who died on May 30, |
|
2015, at the age of 70; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bob Neill was born in Passaic, New Jersey, on June 4, |
|
1944, to Mildred Ziegler and Robert Neill, who served as a |
|
lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army; the family lived in France, |
|
South Korea, and Brownwood, Texas, before settling in El Paso in |
|
1957; Mr. Neill graduated as co-valedictorian of the Irvin High |
|
School Class of 1962, and he went on to earn a bachelor's degree at |
|
Colgate University; after receiving his law degree from The |
|
University of Texas at Austin in 1970, he returned to El Paso with |
|
his new bride, Rosemary Vivero; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Neill began his career in the trust department |
|
of the El Paso National Bank, where he rose to vice president; he |
|
later opened a private practice in probate law, helping countless |
|
clients over the years, no matter how difficult their cases and |
|
regardless of their ability to pay; he was a founding member and |
|
board chair of the El Paso Probate Bar Association, a fellow of the |
|
Texas Bar Foundation, and a founding board member of the El Paso |
|
Community Foundation; and |
|
WHEREAS, From his college days in Austin until the end of his |
|
life, Mr. Neill was a dedicated member of the Democratic Party, |
|
helping to run campaigns, advising candidates and elected |
|
officials, and fund-raising; he was twice a delegate to the |
|
Democratic National Convention as well as a member of the State |
|
Democratic Executive Committee and a co-chair of the state party; |
|
in 2002, he helped bring the state convention to El Paso; and |
|
WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Neill shared 46 years of |
|
marriage with his wife, Rosemary, and he once turned down a ride on |
|
Air Force One with President Jimmy Carter to take his children, |
|
Margaret and Alex, trick-or-treating; through the years, he took |
|
great pride in his children's successes, and he later found immense |
|
joy in spending time with his granddaughters, Olivia and Evelyn; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Admired for his compassion, integrity, and good |
|
humor, Bob Neill lived a life rich in personal and professional |
|
achievements, and he leaves behind a record of service that will |
|
continue to inspire all who had the good fortune to know him; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Robert G. Neill Jr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his |
|
relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bob Neill. |
