R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The 95th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed |
|
cause for celebration, and Birdie Mae Brown marked this joyous |
|
occasion on June 21, 2017, in the company of family and friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in 1922, Birdie Mae Brown worked in the cotton |
|
fields with her family as a child and attended school in Blooming |
|
Grove; she married young, and she and her husband, Rubin Brown, |
|
became parents when she was just 17; the family resided in Bristol |
|
before settling in Ennis in the 1960s; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Brown instilled in her 12 children the |
|
importance of completing their education, and she worked diligently |
|
to help support her treasured family; she was employed at the Adams |
|
Hats factory in Corsicana for 16 years, and she also served as a |
|
caregiver; she finally retired at the age of 80; and |
|
WHEREAS, Widowed in 1996, she now lives in Mesquite with one |
|
of her sons, but paid a visit to her daughter in Ennis for her |
|
birthday; today, Mrs. Brown is the cherished matriarch of a very |
|
large extended family of more than 40 grandchildren, over 50 |
|
great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, |
|
including a set of twins born on her birthday; and |
|
WHEREAS, Birdie Mae Brown has met life's challenges with |
|
resilience, optimism, and determination, and she is a source of |
|
wisdom and inspiration to all who have the good fortune to know her; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Birdie Mae |
|
Brown on her 95th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
|
continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Brown as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
