R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Patience LeBlanc of the Frisco Independent School
  District has been named the 2017 Texas History Teacher of the Year
  by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 2004, this prestigious award
  recognizes educators at the kindergarten through high school levels
  for excellence in teaching American history; each state winner is
  honored with a $1,000 prize and an invitation to a weeklong seminar
  hosted by the institute, and the winners' school libraries receive
  a core archive of history books and educational materials; and
         WHEREAS, Patience LeBlanc earned her bachelor's degree from
  Texas A&M University in 1998 and her master's degree in history from
  Texas Woman's University in 2016; she currently teaches eighth
  grade U.S. history at Fowler Middle School, where she strives to
  make lessons interesting and memorable by dressing as historical
  characters; she also aims to instill in her students an
  understanding of the U.S. Constitution and its importance in their
  lives; and
         WHEREAS, A leader in her district, Ms. LeBlanc has designed
  curriculum, conducted staff development seminars, and headed the
  history faculty on her campus; in addition, she takes part in the
  Citizen Bee civic education program, and she has been a forum
  monitor for the James Madison Legacy Project of the Center for Civic
  Education and a consultant to the State Bar of Texas Law Related
  Education department; and
         WHEREAS, Through her boundless enthusiasm for her subject,
  Patience LeBlanc has brought American history to life for her
  students, and in so doing, she has helped them develop the critical
  thinking skills that will serve them well in the years ahead; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Patience
  LeBlanc on her selection as the 2017 Texas History Teacher of the
  Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and extend
  to her sincere best wishes for continued success in her important
  work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. LeBlanc as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
