R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Steven Smith, secretary of the Klein Independent
  School District Board of Trustees, concluded his term in June 2017,
  following six years of exemplary service; and
         WHEREAS, Since winning election to the board in November
  2011, Mr. Smith has collaborated with his fellow trustees to
  benefit district schools; and
         WHEREAS, This notable Texan has also given back to his
  community by mentoring Klein ISD students, teaching English as a
  second language classes, and providing tax preparation services for
  low-income individuals and senior citizens; strong in his faith, he
  is an active member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, and
  he has served on the church's finance and Knights of Columbus
  councils; and
         WHEREAS, A former officer in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Smith enjoyed
  successful careers in the energy and banking sectors; he holds a
  bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of
  Kansas and a master's degree in business administration from the
  University of Colorado; moreover, he received a Master Trustee
  certification from the Leadership Texas Association of School
  Boards in 2013; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and
  support of his wife, Debbie, and their two children; and
         WHEREAS, A dedicated advocate for area students and their
  families, Steven Smith has furthered the mission of Klein ISD, and
  he may take pride in the many meaningful contributions he made
  during his tenure on the board; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Steven Smith for his
  service on the Klein Independent School District Board of Trustees
  and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
