SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 21
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of |
|
|
mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Burgie and Sher |
|
|
Thompson celebrated this joyous milestone in their marriage on |
|
|
June 3, 2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, While serving as a sergeant in the United States |
|
|
Marine Corps, Burgie Thompson began dating the former Sher |
|
|
Kellogg, a beauty school student; they were joined in matrimony |
|
|
in 1967, and over the years, the couple have been blessed with a |
|
|
treasured family that includes their two daughters, Wyndi and |
|
|
Staci, as well as their five grandchildren, Karlee, Kynzi, |
|
|
Kamren, Blake, and Koby; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Valued members of the Powderly community, Mr. and |
|
|
Mrs. Thompson have lived in the area for the past two decades; |
|
|
Mr. Thompson had a successful career with Yellow Freight |
|
|
Trucking before attending Southwestern Baptist Theological |
|
|
Seminary and devoting his life to the ministry, and today he |
|
|
serves as pastor of Sawyer Baptist Church in southern Oklahoma; |
|
|
Mrs. Thompson holds a master's degree in teaching and worked in |
|
|
the North Lamar Independent School District; in her retirement, |
|
|
she has focused her attention on her family as well as the |
|
|
congregation at Sawyer Baptist Church; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson have enjoyed a half century |
|
|
of abiding love and affection for each other, and they are among |
|
|
an exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting |
|
|
commitment; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Burgie and |
|
|
Sher Thompson on their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the couple as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
