SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 68
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Gwen W. Grigsby, who is retiring from her position with
  The University of Texas at Austin after a distinguished 31-year
  career in state service and higher education; and
         WHEREAS, Gwen Grigsby earned a master's degree from the
  Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, and she began her
  career by working for the office of Lieutenant Governor
  William P. Hobby Jr. on issues relating to public and higher
  education; as a member of his staff, she was involved with the
  major education reform effort of the Select Committee on
  Public Education; and
         WHEREAS, She later joined The University of Texas System,
  where she worked in governmental relations for 15 years; in 1998,
  she was hired as the associate vice president of Governmental
  Relations at The University of Texas at Austin, and over the last
  19 years, her leadership has been a valuable asset to the
  department; and
         WHEREAS, A highly respected administrator, Gwen has
  served the university and the university's system in numerous
  capacities; she made a notable impact in such areas as the
  university system and public school collaboration, and she
  served on the Committee on the Advancement of Women and the
  Selection Advisory Committee for director of the University
  Interscholastic League; and
         WHEREAS, Wherever she has served, Gwen Grigsby has handled
  her far-reaching responsibilities with exceptional skill and
  dedication; she has helped to set standards for excellence in her
  position in Governmental Relations, and her presence will be
  greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Gwen W. Grigsby
  for her many contributions to the state and extend to her best
  wishes in all her future endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
