SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 94
WHEREAS, Boys Town Texas has made a vital difference in the
lives of countless children and their families for nearly three
  decades; and
WHEREAS, The original Boys Town was founded in 1917 near
Omaha, Nebraska, by Father Edward Flanagan, who wanted to provide
a refuge, education, and vocational training for boys in need of
a safe, stable environment; the institution pioneered new methods
of caring for children in crisis, with a particular emphasis on
helping young people become productive members of society; and
WHEREAS, A regional center, Boys Town Texas, was established
in San Antonio in 1989, and over the years, it has touched the
lives of more than 22,000 young people and 4,300 families; the
organization has worked to keep children in their own homes
whenever possible by strengthening parents' child-raising skills
and by connecting families with community resources and supports,
and it has arranged for out-of-home care when necessary; it has
also provided training for foster parents, therapy services for
children and families, and emergency, short-term care for
children in urgent need of assistance; and
WHEREAS, Boys Town Texas has also furthered its mission by
hosting an annual 5K-10K race to raise awareness and funding for
child abuse prevention and by collaborating with the United Way,
churches, civic organizations, and other groups to improve the
  lives of area children; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, Boys Town Texas has contributed
immeasurably to bettering the lives of thousands of young Texans
and their families, giving them the hope of a healthier,
brighter, and more promising future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Boys Town Texas
for its contributions to the community and extend to its
management, staff, and volunteers sincere gratitude for their
years of skilled and compassionate care; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Boys
