SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 124

In Memory |
|
of |
|
John William Foster |
|
|
WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew |
|
to a close with the passing of John William Foster of Texarkana on |
|
July 26, 2017, at the age of 95; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of John and Gertie Foster, "Jake" Foster |
|
was born on July 29, 1921, in Blevins, Arkansas, where he |
|
graduated from high school; with the onset of World War II, he |
|
joined the United States Marines and proudly served his country |
|
as a machine gunner in Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Tinian, and Saipan, |
|
earning a Purple Heart for his valorous service; he went on to |
|
enjoy a rewarding career with Midwest Dairy in Bowie County that |
|
spanned three decades, and he later worked as an assistant |
|
building superintendent for the First Baptist Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of deep faith, Mr. Foster was ordained as a |
|
deacon in 1966 and was a congregant of First Baptist Church |
|
Texarkana; he further gave of his time and talents as a member of |
|
the Evening Kiwanis Club, and he found fulfillment in working in |
|
his yard, gardening, and assisting loved ones with building |
|
projects; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Foster was a devoted husband to his wife, |
|
Janette, and over the course of their more than seven decades |
|
together, the couple were blessed with a fine family that |
|
included 2 daughters, Sherry and Debbie, a son-in-law, Blaine, |
|
and 5 grandchildren, Steve, Mike, Brian, Staci, and Micah, as |
|
well as 10 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, 4 |
|
step-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren, and 6 |
|
step-great-great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Jake Foster sought out ways |
|
to help others, and although he will be deeply missed, he leaves |
|
behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that will continue to |
|
inspire all those who had the good fortune to know him; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of John William Foster and extend heartfelt sympathy to his |
|
family and many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do |
|
so in memory of Jake Foster. |
