Betty Jean Slentz West |
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Betty |
|
Jean Slentz West, who passed away on July 26, 2017, at the age of |
|
91; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Three Sands, Oklahoma, on March 3, 1926, |
|
the former Betty Jean Slentz was the daughter of Andrew and |
|
Bessie Slentz and grew up with the companionship of a brother, |
|
Leroy, and three sisters, Florence, Helen, and Nita; she was |
|
joined in matrimony to Jack West in 1944, and the couple shared |
|
nearly six decades of marriage before his passing; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. West was the proud mother of three children, |
|
David West, Cecil West, and Nancy Graham; she later welcomed into |
|
her family five grandchildren, Tracy, Kellie, Shane, Bryan, and |
|
John, as well as eight great-grandchildren, Courtney, Levi, |
|
Ashley, Wade, Mason, Hannah, Gavin, and Jack, and five |
|
great-great-grandchildren, Bryleigh, Jace, Macy, Kolby, and |
|
Hadlee; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1965, Mrs. West began her career at Henderson |
|
Memorial Hospital, and after a notable tenure there that spanned |
|
16 years, she became a first assistant county auditor for Rusk |
|
County in 1981; she went on to serve as county treasurer from 1990 |
|
to 1991; following her retirement, she joined her husband in |
|
working as a gate attendant for the United States Army Corps of |
|
Engineers in several different states; in their leisure time, the |
|
couple enjoyed traveling in their motor home with their dog, |
|
Peanut; and |
|
WHEREAS, Admired for her kindness, her devotion to her |
|
family, and her dedication to her fellow citizens, Betty West |
|
lived a caring and purposeful life, and she will forever be |
|
remembered with deep affection by all who had the good fortune to |
|
know her; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Betty Jean Slentz West and extend heartfelt sympathy to her |
|
relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do |
|
so in memory of Betty West. |
