SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 132
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Karl Putnam
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Karl Putnam, who died July 12, 2017, at
  the age of 69; and
         WHEREAS, Karl Putnam was born December 19, 1947, in Durham,
  North Carolina; he grew up on the Texas Gulf Coast and earned
  undergraduate and graduate accounting degrees at The University
  of Texas at Austin before receiving a doctorate at Oklahoma State
  University; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Putnam was an associate professor in the
  Accounting and Information Systems Department at The University
  of Texas at El Paso; he was widely published in academic and
  professional journals and contributed numerous questions for
  professional accounting certification examinations; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Putnam was respected and admired by his
  students as well as his colleagues, and he served as chair of the
  dissertation committee for the university's first doctoral
  graduate in accounting; he was active in a number of professional
  organizations, including the American Accounting Association and
  the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants; and
         WHEREAS, He was known across the region for his love of the
  outdoors and his commitment to environmental protection; he
  treasured the beauty and diversity of the Franklin Mountains and
  led countless hikers on group hikes to share the natural wonders
  and historic sites to be found there; he was an organizer of the
  El Paso Hiking Group and the Sunrise Hikers; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he gave
  unselfishly to others, and his generous spirit and enthusiasm for
  living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten by those who
  were privileged to share in his life; and
         WHEREAS, He was devoted to his large and loving extended
  family, and he leaves behind memories that will long be cherished
  by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences
  to the bereaved family and friends of Karl Putnam; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Karl Putnam.
