Karl Putnam |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Karl Putnam, who died July 12, 2017, at |
|
the age of 69; and |
|
WHEREAS, Karl Putnam was born December 19, 1947, in Durham, |
|
North Carolina; he grew up on the Texas Gulf Coast and earned |
|
undergraduate and graduate accounting degrees at The University |
|
of Texas at Austin before receiving a doctorate at Oklahoma State |
|
University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Putnam was an associate professor in the |
|
Accounting and Information Systems Department at The University |
|
of Texas at El Paso; he was widely published in academic and |
|
professional journals and contributed numerous questions for |
|
professional accounting certification examinations; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Putnam was respected and admired by his |
|
students as well as his colleagues, and he served as chair of the |
|
dissertation committee for the university's first doctoral |
|
graduate in accounting; he was active in a number of professional |
|
organizations, including the American Accounting Association and |
|
the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was known across the region for his love of the |
|
outdoors and his commitment to environmental protection; he |
|
treasured the beauty and diversity of the Franklin Mountains and |
|
led countless hikers on group hikes to share the natural wonders |
|
and historic sites to be found there; he was an organizer of the |
|
El Paso Hiking Group and the Sunrise Hikers; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he gave |
|
unselfishly to others, and his generous spirit and enthusiasm for |
|
living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten by those who |
|
were privileged to share in his life; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was devoted to his large and loving extended |
|
family, and he leaves behind memories that will long be cherished |
|
by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences |
|
to the bereaved family and friends of Karl Putnam; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Karl Putnam. |
