No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code relating to the use of wireless communication devices while operating a motor vehicle.

It is assumed any costs to the state to implement the provisions of the bill can be absorbed with existing resources.

The bill would repeal Section 545.424 (a), (b), (f), and (g); Section 545.425, and Section 545.4252 of the Transportation Code effective September 1, 2017.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2017 if the bill receives a two-thirds vote in each house; otherwise the bill would take effect on the 91st day after the last day of legislative session. 

Local Government Impact

According to the Texas Municipal League and the Texas Association of Counties, no significant fiscal impact is anticipated to units of local government.
