No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would extend the conditions under which a court may grant habeas corpus relief based on the existence of scientific evidence that was not available at the time of a defendant's trial. Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.
Local Government Impact
According to the Texas Association of Counties (TAC), El Paso County reported the bill would have no fiscal impact to the County.
