BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Interested parties contend that there is an ongoing need to provide public outreach materials regarding certain expanded curriculum requirements. H.B. 264 seeks to address this issue by providing for the continuation of the law applicable to such materials.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE IMPACT

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly create a criminal offense, increase the punishment for an existing criminal offense or category of offenses, or change the eligibility of a person for community supervision, parole, or mandatory supervision.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

H.B. 264 amends the Education Code to postpone the expiration date of statutory provisions relating to the uniform public outreach materials developed by the Texas Education Agency to promote awareness of public school curriculum changes under Chapter 211 (H.B. 5), Acts of the 83rd Legislature, Regular Session, 2013, from September 1, 2018, to September 1, 2020.

EFFECTIVE DATE

On passage, or, if the bill does not receive the necessary vote, September 1, 2017.
