AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

Concerns have been raised that educational material relating to driving with autism is not sufficiently available to the driving public. H.B. 1434 seeks to address these concerns by authorizing such materials developed by an appropriate entity to be displayed in driver's license offices.

 

H.B. 1434 amends current law relating to displaying certain informational materials and videos in driver's license offices.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1. Amends Subchapter A, Chapter 521, Transportation Code, by adding Section 521.0062, as follows:

 

Sec. 521.0062. INFORMATION ON DRIVING WITH AUTISM. Authorizes the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to make available, in a publicly accessible area of a driver's license office, informational materials and videos on driving with autism that are developed by an appropriate entity, as determined by DPS.

 

SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2017. �
