Committee Report (Unamended)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Interested parties are concerned the public lacks sufficient awareness of diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, a fatal pediatric tumor. The goal of H.B. 2986 is to increase awareness of these tumors by designating a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma Awareness Day as part of the already nationally recognized Brain Tumor Awareness Month of May.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE IMPACT

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly create a criminal offense, increase the punishment for an existing criminal offense or category of offenses, or change the eligibility of a person for community supervision, parole, or mandatory supervision.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

H.B. 2986 amends the Government Code to designate May 17 as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma Awareness Day to raise awareness about the prevalence and deadliness of diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, a pediatric brain tumor.
