AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
H.B. 3042 designates July 7 as Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Day. This bill creates the opportunity for all Texans to stand together in recognizing and honoring the bravery shown by those who make the ultimate sacrifice in order to protect us.
H.B. 3042 amends current law relating to designating July 7 as Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Day.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.
SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, by adding Section 662.066, as follows:
Sec. 662.066. FALLEN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER DAY. (a) Provides that July 7 is Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Day in recognition of the ultimate sacrifice made by Texas law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
(b) Requires that Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Day be regularly observed by appropriate ceremonies.
SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2017.
