SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1. Amends Section 1084.051(b), Special District Local Laws Code, as follows:

(b) Provides that, unless four-year terms are established under Section 285.081 (Terms), Health and Safety Code, the directors elected to the board of directors (directors) of the Palo Pinto County Hospital District (district) serve staggered three-year terms, rather than two-year terms. Deletes existing text providing that directors for places 1, 2, and 3 are elected on the uniform election date in May of each odd-numbered year and directors for places 4, 5, and 6 are elected on the uniform election date in May of each even numbered year.

SECTION 2. Requires a director of the district who is serving on the day before the effective date of this Act to serve until the director's term expires as described by this section. Requires a director serving in Place 1 or Place 2 to serve until the director's successor has qualified following the election held in 2017. Requires a director serving in Place 3 or Place 4 to serve until the director's successor has qualified following the election held in 2018. Requires a director serving in Place 5 or Place 6 to serve until the director's successor has qualified following the election held in 2019.

SECTION 3. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2017.
