AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

On December 6, 2000, Sergeant (Sgt.) David M. Furrh was killed in the line of duty while serving a narcotics search warrant. A 22-year veteran of law enforcement, early in his career, Sgt. Furrh was hired as the first ever full-time police officer in the history of the City of Moulton.

 

S.B. 365 amends the Transportation Code to designate the portion of State Highway 95 in Lavaca County from the northern municipal limits of Shiner to the southern municipal limits of Moulton as the Sergeant David M. Furrh Memorial Highway.

 

S.B. 365 amends current law relating to the designation of a portion of State Highway 95 in Lavaca County as the Sergeant David M. Furrh Memorial Highway.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1. Amends Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code, by adding Section 225.123, as follows:

 

Sec. 225.123. SERGEANT DAVID M. FURRH MEMORIAL HIGHWAY. (a) Provides that a certain portion of State Highway 95 in Lavaca County is designated as the Sergeant David M. Furrh Memorial Highway.

 

(b) Requires the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), subject to Section 225.021(c) (relating to funding the design, construction, or erection of a marker), to design and construct markers indicating the designation as the Sergeant David M. Furrh Memorial Highway and any other appropriate information and erect a marker at each end of and at appropriate intermediate sites along the highway.

 

SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2017.
