A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the electronic completion of an application for a |
|
|
ballot to be voted by mail. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 84, Election Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 84.006 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 84.006. APPLICATION FOR BALLOT VOTED BY MAIL: |
|
|
ELECTRONIC COMPLETION. (a) An application for a ballot to be voted |
|
|
by mail may be completed electronically on a device capable of: |
|
|
(1) capturing a voter's signature; and |
|
|
(2) allowing the voter to complete an electronic form. |
|
|
(b) An application completed electronically under this |
|
|
section must be printed and delivered to the early voting clerk in |
|
|
accordance with Section 84.007. |
|
|
(c) The secretary of state shall adopt rules governing the |
|
|
creation of an electronic form that meets the requirements of |
|
|
Section 84.011. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
