A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a grant program for law enforcement agencies that |
|
|
comply with certain reporting requirements. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 402, Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 402.0391 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 402.0391. GRANT PROGRAM FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES |
|
|
THAT COMPLY WITH CERTAIN REPORTING REQUIREMENTS. (a) Using money |
|
|
appropriated for the purpose, the attorney general shall award |
|
|
grants to law enforcement agencies if the head of the agency |
|
|
certifies under oath that the agency complies with the reporting |
|
|
requirements under Article 2.139, Code of Criminal Procedure, as |
|
|
added by Chapter 516 (H.B. 1036), Acts of the 84th Legislature, |
|
|
Regular Session, 2015. |
|
|
(b) The attorney general annually shall request proposals |
|
|
for the award of grants under this section. |
|
|
(c) Grant money received under this section may only be used |
|
|
for police training and equipment that are not military or |
|
|
paramilitary in nature. |
|
|
(d) The attorney general shall establish procedures to |
|
|
administer the grant program, including a procedure for the |
|
|
submission of a proposal. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
