A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a study on the implementation of photo voter |
|
identification requirements. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 31, Election Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 31.013 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 31.013. STUDY ON IMPLEMENTATION OF VOTER |
|
IDENTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS. (a) The secretary of state shall |
|
conduct a study on the implementation of the changes in law made by |
|
Chapter 123 (S.B. 14), Acts of the 82nd Legislature, Regular |
|
Session, 2011, including: |
|
(1) the costs of implementation; |
|
(2) additional requirements for election workers to |
|
accept a voter; |
|
(3) the amount of time needed to accept a voter at the |
|
polling place; and |
|
(4) training, if any, provided to election workers at |
|
the county and precinct levels. |
|
(b) Not later than January 1, 2019, the secretary of state |
|
shall report the study's findings to the committees of each house of |
|
the legislature with jurisdiction over elections. |
|
(c) This section expires September 1, 2019. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
