A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to allowing a person to register a motor vehicle when |
|
|
delinquent in the payment of certain civil penalties. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 707.017, Transportation Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 707.017. REGISTRATION AFTER CIVIL PENALTY IMPOSED |
|
|
[ENFORCEMENT]. Neither the [(a)
If the owner of a motor vehicle is
|
|
|
delinquent in the payment of a civil penalty imposed under this
|
|
|
chapter, the] county assessor-collector nor [or] the Texas |
|
|
Department of Motor Vehicles may refuse to register a motor |
|
|
vehicle, under Section 502.010 or any other law, solely because the |
|
|
owner of the motor vehicle is delinquent in the payment of a civil |
|
|
penalty imposed under this chapter [alleged to have been involved
|
|
|
in the violation]. |

|
[(b)
This section does not apply to the registration of a
|
|
|
motor vehicle under Section 501.0234.] |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
